One hospitalized after train accident in Del Mar
DEL MAR, CA – A man jogging along train tracks while listening to headphones was sent to the hospital after he was struck by a train this afternoon in Del Mar, according to a report by NBC San Diego.
The accident happened just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Stratford Court and 8th Street, when the victim failed to notice a train coming up behind him on the tracks. The Amtrak train reportedly sounded its horn at the jogger, but due to the headphones, the man was not aware of the train until it was too late for him to get out of the way.
The victim was taken to the hospital for the treatment of unspecified injuries.
A representative from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said that people are often not aware that the tracks are actively in use.
The identity and current condition of the victim are not available at this time.
