UPDATE: 17-Year-Old Involved in Del Mar Heights Crash Dies
SAN DIEGO, CA – A 49-year-old man crashed his car into a tree last week while driving with his two teenage children in Del Mar Heights. The 49-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene, and his 17-year-old son was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. On April 14, 2020, the San Diego Union-Tribune released information that the 17-year-old died in the hospital a few hours after the crash. The 15-year-old daughter survived the crash with minor injuries to her abdomen.
Police believe the driver was speeding during heavy rain. The slick road surface caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle and swerve into a nearby tree. Officers are still investigating the crash to determine if any other factors were involved in the accident. Police reports originally identified the man as 50-years-old but have updated this information since the time of the crash.
