Motocross Champion Killed in Dune Buggy Accident
SAN DIEGO, CA – Marty Smith and his wife Nancy died on Monday night, after crashing their dune buggy in the Glamis Dunes. A San Diego native, Marty Smith was celebrated in his hometown and across the nation as one of the greatest motocross riders. At the height of his career in the 1970s, Smith won three AMA motocross championships.
Police officers report that the 63-year-old and his wife were killed in an off-roading accident, but they have not released any additional information about how the accident occurred. We will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as new information becomes available.
