Victim of fatal trolley accident identified
SAN DIEGO, CA – The victim of the fatal car versus trolley accident that happened in the Valencia Park-area on Monday night has been identified, according to Patch.com.
21-year-old Alex Garza was killed when he drove past the crossing arms and in front of an oncoming trolley near 60th Street and Imperial Avenue at about 11:45 p.m.
The light-rail tram trolley spun the vehicle around on impact and pushed it about 100 feet down the track before pinning it against a utility pole.
Garza was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe he was likely distracted, perhaps by his cellphone, when the crash occurred.
