Update: Details emerge about fatal Spring Valley crash
SAN DIEGO, CA – More details have come to light about the fatal car accident that killed one person near a Spring Valley intersection on Wednesday morning.
According to an area news source, the single-vehicle crash occurred when a Chula Vista man careened off the Paradise Valley Road near Worthington Street in a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. After going over the sidewalk, the vehicle crashed through a chain-link fence, down an embankment, and into a tree stump.
The 52-year-old woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was apparently laying in the backseat without a seatbelt at the time of the 6:50 a.m. crash. She was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency crews performed life-saving measures but she was unresponsive and ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Her identity has been withheld pending notification of family.
The 49-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt when he lost control of the car.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident is still underway.
