Update: 21-year-old man dead following jet ski vs. boat accident in Mission Bay
SAN DIEGO, CA – A few days ago, our team posted a story about a 21-year-old man dead after a jet ski and boat collided in Mission Bay. NBC San Diego is reporting new updates to the story. According to NBC, the 21-year-old has now been identified as Darius Kennedy from Warren, Michigan.
Kennedy was riding a jet ski at Ski Beach at around 6:30 p.m on August 8th when he was struck by a boat. Kennedy was rescued by another jet ski rider and taken to shore. Emergency responders then transported him to Scripps Memorial Hospital where he was treated for multiple traumatic injuries to his head and upper body. Kennedy passed away about four hours later.
The driver of the boat initially fled the scene but cooperated with police later that day. The boat has been impounded as evidence. It’s unclear at this time if the driver of the boat will face any charges.
