Three dead, six injured by DUI driver near SD City College

SAN DIEGO, CA – Three people are dead and six more injured after an elderly man drove into a homeless encampment near San Diego City College on Monday morning.

According to Fox News San Diego, the 71-year-old driver was in a Volvo station wagon and driving west through the tunnel in the 1500 block of B Street at about 9 a.m. The vehicle veered from the street and onto the sidewalk, hitting a group of people.

Authorities pronounced three people dead at the scene. Two others were transported with serious injuries to UCSD Medical Center. Three others, whose injuries were less severe, were transported to other area hospitals. One person received treatment at the scene.

All the victims were adults. Their identities have not been released.

The suspect, a San Diego man identified as Craig Voss, stopped at the scene. He got out of his vehicle and wanted to help the injured people. He cooperated with the police and was arrested at the scene.

He was given a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was been booked for felony manslaughter, counts of causing great bodily harm, and driving under the influence of drugs.

An investigation is ongoing.
