Fatal UCSC skateboard accident victim identified

SAN DIEGO, CA – The victim of a fatal car versus skateboard accident on the University of California San Diego campus last week has been identified.

According to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s office, the 19-year-old victim was riding his skateboard down a steep hill on Voight Drive. He apparently fell from his skateboard and was hit by a car at about 11:35 p.m. on Saturday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified as Carlos Rey Sotelo of Lake Elsinore.

12-year-old girl suffers brain bleed after skateboard crash

SAN DIEGO, CA – A young girl suffered major injuries after crashing into a minivan on her skateboard in the City Heights on Wednesday evening.

The Times of San Diego reported that the 12-year-old was riding her skateboard downhill and eastbound on Estrella Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. She slammed into the rear bumper of a 2011 Toyota Sienna as it drove through the intersection of Estrella and Polk Avenues.

The injured child was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital with a brain bleed and a fractured skull.

An update on her condition has not been made available on Thursday. We will update this story should more information come to light.
