A woman was killed and another person was injured in a bus crash in the downtown area of Santa Barbara, CA on Wednesday afternoon, October 9, 2019. An eastbound Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District bus veered off West Figueroa Street onto the sidewalk, and into a bus bench. The crash killed a 67-year old woman from Santa Barbara.The accident also critically injured a 75-year old woman. The crash took place at approximately 2:20 pm, east of Chapala Street, close to the MTD transit center. Both 2 women were sitting on the bus bench, waiting for a bus, at the time of the crash. The 75-year old woman sustained injuries to both of her legs. Other people who gathered at the bus stop were able to escape being injured from the crash. 2 people who were occupants of the bus involved in the crash were also injured. Several other people involved in the crash refused medical treatment. Among the suspected possible causes of the crash were driver error and mechanical failure.
