24-year-old hospitalized with multiple injuries after crashing electric scooter

SAN DIEGO, CA – A man suspected of being intoxicated was hospitalized after he crashed his electric scooter in Hillside early yesterday morning, according to the Times of San Diego.

The accident happened in the 3500 block of Fourth Avenue at about 1 a.m., as a 24-year-old man was driving his Bird scooter northbound in the southbound, one-way street. He collided with the median and was then ejected from the scooter.

The man, who was later determined to have been under the influence, was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries. These included a fractured skull and multiple lacerations.

The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

Update: Boy was riding scooter when struck on Alpine street

SAN DIEGO, CA – A three-year-old child was riding a scooter without a helmet when he was struck by a car on a neighborhood street in Alpine on Friday.

According to the Times of San Diego, the three-year-old boy rode his scooter out of a private driveway on River Dance Count at 9 a.m. The small child crashed into the front passenger side of the 2010 Mazda 3.

The child suffered moderately severe trauma and was airlifted from the scene to a children’s hospital.

The 54-year-old El Cajon driver will most likely not face charges in connection with the accident.

Scooter rider suffers life-threatening injuries in collision with SUV

SAN DIEGO, CA – An intoxicated man riding a scooter was struck by an SUV near Liberty Station on Sunday, according to the Times of San Diego.

The 36-year-old was riding an electric scooter on Byron Street near Rosencrans Street at about 10:40 p.m. He drove through a red light and crashed into a Volvo SUV.

The man was transported from the scene to a local hospital with a brain bleed and other life-threatening injuries.

The 20-year-old female driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officials.

The scooter’s rider was determined to be intoxicated at the time of the accident.
