84-year-old woman victim of Escondido pedestrian crash

SAN DIEGO, CA – Authorities are working to notify the family of a pedestrian killed by a car at an Escondido intersection last Friday afternoon.

According to the Office of the Medical Examiner, the 84-year-old woman crossing El Norte Parkway at Las Villas Way in front of a stopped vehicle at about 3 p.m. An SUV came up behind the stopped sedan, swerved to avoid hitting it, but instead hit the elderly woman

The woman was taken to Palomar Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The 84-year-old woman was a resident of Escondido. Her identity has been withheld pending family notification.

71-year-old woman injured in Mission Valley hit-and-run

SAN DIEGO, CA – A 71-year-old woman was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver in the Mission Valley area on Wednesday afternoon last week.

According to NBC News San Diego, the accident happened outside the Lowe’s in the Fenton Marketplace at about 2:15 p.m. The elderly victim was on foot when she was struck by a gold Honda Accord.

The driver did not stop to help the victim, who had broken bones and head injuries. She was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.

Police have released a description of the 2003 four-door sedan, including its license plate number: 4ZNN918, in an attempt to find the driver with the public’s help. The car also had front-end damage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the authorities.

Street sweeper kills pedestrian in Kearny Mesa

SAN DIEGO, CA – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a street sweeper in Kearny Mesa late on Sunday night, according to the Times of San Diego.

The woman was standing in the crosswalk at the corner of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and Overland Avenue when the accident happened at about 10 p.m. A 2006 Toyota Tundra street sweeper, driven by a 35-year-old man, was headed west when it struck the pedestrian.

The woman died at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released.

Pedestrian injured by hit-and-run crash in Oceanside

SAN DIEGO, CA – A pedestrian was transported to a local hospital after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Oceanside on Monday evening.

According to CHP, a car struck a pedestrian in the 9600 block of Old Castle Road just after 7 p.m.

The pedestrian was transported to Palomar Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries. An initial report suggested that the vehicle had clipped the victim with a side mirror.

The vehicle left the scene immediately following the accident. A description of the vehicle was unavailable.

Pedestrian killed in crash in Imperial Beach

SAN DIEGO, CA – A pedestrian suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the Imperial Beach area late on Wednesday night.

According to the Times of San Diego, the victim was crossing the street on Palm Avenue near the intersection with 12th Street when he was struck at about 10:50 p.m. by a 2010 Dodge Challenger.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the man has not yet been released.

The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Authorities determined that alcohol was not the cause of the accident.

Hit-and-run driver breaks pedestrian ribs in Vista accident

SAN DIEGO, CA – A pedestrian was transported to the hospital after a hit-and-run accident in Vista on Thursday afternoon, according to CHP.

A pedestrian was struck by a car in the 2200 block of South Santa Fe Avenue near the Egg Market at about 6:30 p.m.

When authorities arrived, they quickly transported the victim to Palomar Medical Center. The victim was reported to have stable vitals but broken ribs.

The driver left the scene and a description of the car was not available.

Police looking for kin of City College tunnel crash victims

SAN DIEGO, CA – Authorities have released the names of the last two pedestrians killed in Monday’s crash in the tunnel under SD City College.

According to CBS 8 News, police have identified the final two pedestrians killed by a drug-impaired driver in the tunnel on B Street under San Diego City College at about 9 a.m. Monday. 65-year-old Randy Ferris and 61-year-old Walter Jones were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Efforts to locate and notify the victims’ families ahead of releasing the victims’ names proved futile. Police are still looking to get in touch with the next of kin and have released the victims’ names in hopes that it will lead authorities to the families.

The name of the third victim killed Monday, Rodney Diffendel, was released after police reached his family earlier this week.

The 71-year-old driver, Craig Voss, is being held in a county jail.

Three dead, six injured by DUI driver near SD City College

SAN DIEGO, CA – Three people are dead and six more injured after an elderly man drove into a homeless encampment near San Diego City College on Monday morning.

According to Fox News San Diego, the 71-year-old driver was in a Volvo station wagon and driving west through the tunnel in the 1500 block of B Street at about 9 a.m. The vehicle veered from the street and onto the sidewalk, hitting a group of people.

Authorities pronounced three people dead at the scene. Two others were transported with serious injuries to UCSD Medical Center. Three others, whose injuries were less severe, were transported to other area hospitals. One person received treatment at the scene.

All the victims were adults. Their identities have not been released.

The suspect, a San Diego man identified as Craig Voss, stopped at the scene. He got out of his vehicle and wanted to help the injured people. He cooperated with the police and was arrested at the scene.

He was given a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was been booked for felony manslaughter, counts of causing great bodily harm, and driving under the influence of drugs.

An investigation is ongoing.

At least 8 injured by driver near San Diego City College

SAN DIEGO, CA – At least eight pedestrians were struck by a driver near San Diego City College in the East Village area on Monday morning.

According to KUSI News, the accident happened on B Street between 16th Street and Park Boulevard just after 9 a.m.

At least eight people were struck by a driver, who was detained by police at the scene. The extent of their injuries remains unclear.

The area near the incident was closed into the afternoon.

Tractor-trailer fatally hits woman behind Poway strip mall

SAN DIEGO, CA – An investigation is ongoing after a woman was killed by a tractor-trailer behind a shopping center in Poway on Tuesday morning.

According to local news, the woman was in the delivery access road behind the strip mall in the 13300 block of Poway Road at about 9:30 a.m. when she was struck. The truck dragged the victim a few dozen yards before running over her body.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released.

Ongoing investigation efforts have including recreating the scene of the accident.
