SAN DIEGO, CA – Thirteen charges were filed Friday against the man who intentionally drove a pickup truck off a cliff on June 13 while his two toddler girls were inside the vehicle.

NBC San Diego reports that 47-year-old Robert Brians has been charged with attempted murder, child abuse, kidnapping, child abduction, making criminal threats, and burglary. He is being held without bail and will be remotely arraigned on Monday at the San Diego Central Courthouse.

The incident began around 4:30 a.m. when the mother of the 2-year-old girls reported that Brians had allegedly made threats to drive off the Coronado Bridge.

Brians drove his pickup off Sunset Cliffs after being identified on Hill Street by law enforcement. The vehicle landed upside-down in the ocean, and Brians and the two children were rescued by an officer who used his service dog’s leash to climb down the cliff.

Brians and the girls were sent to the hospital for the treatment of non-critical injuries.

The CPSC estimates that 75 percent of all drownings or near-drownings in swimming pools and hot tubs involve children under age 15.
