CHP responds to major crash on I-5 NB in Del Mar

DEL MAR, CA – The California Highway Patrol is responding to a potentially major collision on northbound I-5 near the Del Mar Fairgrounds this afternoon.

According to their online response logs, a black Kia Soul collided with a yellow Ford Mustang at about 1:48 p.m., with as many as five other vehicles ultimately involved. The wreck was in the left lane near the HOV lane.

Tow trucks were called at 1:54 p.m.

Injuries are believed to be present, but an ambulance has not been requested.

Ambulance en route to collision on I-5 S at Camino de la Plaza

SAN DIEGO, CA – An ambulance has been called to the scene of an accident that took place on I-5 southbound at Camino de la Plaza this afternoon.

Units with the California Highway Patrol were on the scene by 1:51 p.m. Two vehicles collided head-on at speeds of approximately 30 miles per hour. Airbags deployed in one of the vehicles, a Ford of unspecified model.

We do not know which motorist was injured at this time, or what may have led to the collision. We will, however, continue to monitor this developing story, and provide updates as possible.

City vehicle involved in collision on I-8 at SH 163

SAN DIEGO, CA – A City of San Diego pickup truck collided with a passenger vehicle on westbound I-8 at SH 163 this afternoon, according to CHP incident logs.

CHP units arrived on the scene at 1:08 p.m., by which point both the pickup truck and the Mazda3 it hit had been pulled onto the right shoulder. It is not clear at this time which driver was responsible for the collision.

Authorities do not believe anyone was injured. However, we will continue to monitor the situation, and provide updates should it change.

28-year-old man killed after single-vehicle crash in Escondido

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the single-vehicle crash occurred along the southbound lanes of I-15 near the exit to the Centre City Parkway.

Troopers believe the unidentified 28-year-old male driver of a Lexus was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a guardrail causing him to be thrown from his vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

Investigators are working to determine an official cause of the crash at this time.

Vista woman killed in suspected DUI collision

VISTA, CA – A 24-year-old woman was killed as the result of a suspected DUI crash in North San Diego Sunday night.

According to KUSI, the accident occurred along SR-78 near the exit to Sycamore Avenue at about 10:30 p.m.

Investigators believe the 36-year-old male driver of a Toyota Tacoma was driving east in the westbound lanes of SR-78 and crashed head-on with a Toyota Matrix.

Both drivers were seriously injured as a result of the crash. The woman in the Matrix succumbed to her injuries at the hospital a short time later.

The names of those involved are being withheld pending further investigation.

Suspected DUI collision reported in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK, CA – Troopers with the California Highway Patrol responded to a suspected drunk driving collision along I-15 Wednesday morning.

According to CHP, troopers responded to reports of a Chevrolet Cruze swerving in and out of lanes along the freeway before colliding with a white Tesla near the exit to Old Highway 95 shortly before 7:30 a.m.

No injuries have been reported as a direct result of the collision at this time. However, this situation is still developing.

Driver flees on foot after colliding with fire hydrant in downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA – A driver walked away from their vehicle after crashing into another vehicle then destroying a fire hydrant early Monday morning.

According to Fox 5 San Diego, the accident occurred near the intersection of G Street and Park Boulevard at about 6 a.m.

Police believe an unidentified man driving a four-door Chevrolet sedan ran through a red light and collided with another vehicle before running up on the curb and knocking over a fire hydrant. The driver then exited his vehicle and walked away from the scene.

Neither the driver in the second vehicle nor his dog was injured as a result of the collision. An investigation into the man responsible for the crash is likely underway.

 

Multiple lanes blocked after crash on I-5 near Mission Bay

SAN DIEGO, CA – Troopers with the California Highway Patrol were forced to shut down at least two lanes following a rush-hour collision along I-5 Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of the interstate near the exit to Mission Pay Drive shortly before 8:30 a.m., according to Caltrans.

No information with regard to how many vehicles were involved in the crash or if any injuries were sustained as a result has been released at this time. However, this situation is still developing.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area as delays and closures are likely throughout Tuesday morning’s rush-hour commute.

Driver critically injured following head-on collision on Highway 76

SAN DIEGO, CA – One person was rushed to the hospital following a head-on crash along Highway 76 Sunday evening.

According to the Times of San Diego, the accident occurred at about 6:18 p.m. near the exit to Puma Valley Drive when a white-paneled van collided with a sedan.

Firefighters worked at the scene for nearly a half-hour to extract drivers from the vehicles. At least two individuals were taken to Palomar Hospital, one with a critical head injury.

Details regarding what may have led up to the collision remain unknown at this time.

Lane blocked following multi-vehicle collision on SR-94

SAN DIEGO, CA – Troopers with the California Highway Patrol were forced to block at least one lane along SR-94 following a Monday morning crash.

The accident was reported in the westbound lanes of SR-94 just east of the exit to Federal Boulevard shortly before 10 a.m., according to Caltrans.
