UPDATE: Williams arraigned from incident where family was killed when woman struck them while driving on suspended license

ESCONDIDO, CA – According to NBC San Diego, Ashley Rene Williams, 28, was arraigned yesterday for causing a crash which killed a family of four who were taking a walk. She was arrested about a month after the incident.

Williams pleaded not guilty to four counts of vehicular manslaughter and murder.

The incident occurred May 5.  According to reports, Williams was driving on San Pasqual Valley Road near Oak Hill Drive, where she struck four pedestrians who were out on a walk.

The victims were Carmela Camacho, Abel Valdez, Yovanny Felix, and Emmanuel Rivas.

Williams’s license had been suspended following a previous DUI incident.

She had drugs in her system and was distracted by her phone at the time of the accident.

Williams’s bail was set at $1 million.

The Escondido Police Department wanted to inform the public that the delay in making an arrest was deliberate. Authorities wanted to ensure thorough investigations so prosecutors have the evidence at their disposal to secure a conviction.

Nurses protest poor working conditions at Oceanside hospital

OCEANSIDE, CA – Nurses at the Tri-City Medical Center protested outside the hospital yesterday about unsafe working conditions and poor management, according to a report by NBC San Diego.

The protests are in response to the leadership of Barbara Vogelsang, the hospital’s Chief Nurse Executive. According to the protesting nurses, she has not provided enough staff for the intensive care unit, has taken away breaks, and has failed to provide her staff with enough necessary resources.

The Tri-City nurses presented a no-confidence vote in her leadership last August. They have already spoken to the hospital’s CEO and to the board regarding the issues at the facility.

The medical center said in a statement that it “values the contributions of every team member. They also said that the safety of patients and staff were “paramount during these unprecedented times,” and that the hospital “continues to meet and exceed all applicable patient safety regulations.”
