A woman was struck and killed in a severe pedestrian wreck that occurred on February 24, 2012, around 12:29p.m. on Arlington Avenue, west of Fairhaven Drive in the far western end of the city. According to Lt. Eric Charrette, a black pickup crossed the double-yellow line, causing the driver of another truck to veer off the road to avoid the collision. Unfortunately, the driver instead ran into a female pedestrian walking east along the south edge of the street.
Paramedics responding to this serious car wreck treated the victim at the scene and later transported her to Riverside Community Hospital, where she died of her injuries. Read the rest »
Suzanne Tuberville, wife of the Texas Tech University head coach Tommy Tuberville, is under investigation for a car wreck in Lubbock back in November 2011. Suzanne allegedly ran a red light at 57th and Slide and crashed into a car carrying 73-year-old Nelda Purdy and her husband 87-year-old Ira Purdy. After spending the last 4 months in intensive care, Ira Purdy died this past Friday.
At the time of the accident, Nelda and Ira sustained critical injuries. According to the Purdy’s family attorney, the man never recovered from the significant head injury, broken leg, and broken ribs, which resulted in his death last Friday. Sources say that he was in good condition and very active before the accident. However, with such significant injuries, it is hard to fully recover at that age. Read the rest »
J&J’s McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit are pulling all 574,000 bottles of its grape-flavored, liquid Infants’ Tylenol off the U.S. market because parents are having problems using its redesigned bottles. The company introduced this only 3 months ago in an effort to make measuring doses easier.
17 parents or caregivers have complained that the protective cover on the top of the bottles didn’t work correctly. The plastic cover is meant to act as a flow restrictor, limiting how much of the liquid is drawn into the plastic syringe. When the syringe in inserted into the bottle, it instead pushes the protective cover into the bottle.
J&J’s consumer health segment, McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit, has had about 25 product recalls since September 2009. This recent recall is a huge disappointment to J&J, who firmly believed that the infant Tylenol’s new packaging would limit spillage and “help a mom, dad, or caregiver ensure the correct dosage” because babies are particularly vulnerable to excessive doses of medicine. A 32-year-old active-duty Marine from Escondido was killed in a solo-vehicle crash that occurred on January 8, 2012, around 2 p.m. on State Route 76 (SR-76) on a rural road near Palomar Mountain. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt, the biker was riding a 2007 Ducati motorcycle east of Red Gate Road.

A 62-year-old woman sustained serious injuries in a hit-and-run car crash that occurred on January 4, 2012, around 6:15 p.m. at Heacock Street and Kernwood Drive. According to Riverside County sheriff’s officials, the victim was crossing a street in Moreno Valley when she was struck by a northbound dark-colored mid-1990s Honda two-door car with a black hood.
The victim suffered severe head injuries and broken bones and was immediately transported to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley for medical treatment. Gloria Serrano was seriously injured in hit-and-run auto accident that occurred on January 5, 2012, around 5:40 p.m. at Elmhurt Street. According to the police, Serrano was attempting to cross Otay Lakes Road when she was hit by a northbound sedan.

According to California Highway Patrol officer Jesse Udovich, the victim had a flat tire and was waiting for assistance when he was struck by an alleged drunk driver.
