Crash on San Diego Fwy causes delays, lane closure in National City

NATIONAL CITY, CA – A collision on the San Diego Freeway caused traffic delays and lane closures on Friday afternoon, according to Caltrans San Diego.


The accident happened on southbound I-5 (San Diego Freeway), north of Civic Center Drive and W 12th Street, just before 2 p.m.

The circumstances of the crash are unclear at this time, but authorities stated that the left lane was closed as a result of the crash.

A few minutes later, they reported the crash as cleared from the roadway.

It is unclear if anyone was hurt in the collision.

21-year-old killed, 5 people injured after high-speed pursuit ends in crash in La Presa

LA PRESA, CA – A woman was killed, and two men, two teenagers, and a 15-month-old toddler sustained injuries after the driver of an allegedly stolen vehicle ran a red light in La Presa.

According to the Times of San Diego, the accident occurred near the intersection of Sweetwater Road and Jamacha Road at about 10 p.m. Friday, after Sheriff’s deputies reportedly spotted a stolen vehicle, which was being operated by a 17-year-old driver.

The teen driver sped away from deputies, which began a high-speed pursuit. The teen allegedly ran a red light, then crashed into two vehicles.

The driver then reportedly attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended by authorities a short time later.

A 21-year-old woman in the first vehicle was taken to the hospital with severe wounds. There, she succumbed to her injuries.

Two men and a 15-month-old, all of whom were occupants of the second struck vehicle, were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. They are expected to recover.

The driver and their 16-year-old passenger were treated for minor injuries.

The passenger was arrested on suspicion of crimes related to a weapon in the allegedly stolen car.

The driver is facing multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle and vehicular manslaughter.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.

One injured after SUV collides with tree in National City

NATIONAL CITY, CA – A person was injured today in National City after hitting a tree in a rollover accident, according to Fox 5 San Diego.

The accident happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Interstate 5 near Miles of Cars Way when a white Toyota 4Runner was swerving through traffic and then collided with a tree. The SUV flipped over and then landed on top of trolley tracks.

While the condition of the driver was not immediately known, he was seen bleeding at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not been made available to the public.
