A San Diego California Highway patrol officer was injured after he was struck by a suspected drunk driver in East County, CA late Tuesday evening, August 13, 2019. According to police, the officer was removing debris from State Route 94 in the Lemon Grove area when about 10:30 pm, the officer saw a vehicle speeding towards his direction. The officer was able to stop the car, however, when the officer began to approach the driver, the driver hit the gas and drove his car towards the officer. The driver crashed the car into the officer and the officer’s patrol car before fleeing. The CHP officer was left injured on the side of the freeway but was able to move to a safe part of the road and make a call for help. The said CHP officer involved in the crash sustained moderate injuries.
