Man dead after crashing car during medical emergency in Jacumba
JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS, CA – A man collided with a median on I-8 while he was experiencing a medical emergency, leading to his death in the Jacumba area on Friday.
According to the Times of San Diego, the accident happened near Inkopah Park Road at about 12 p.m., as a 54-year-old man from El Cajon was experiencing a medical episode.
The man, operating a 2015 Volkswagen Passat, had pulled over to the side of the highway when his vehicle began to move again, and finally collided into the center median.
The victim was rescued by witnesses in the area, just as his vehicle caught fire.
A medivac helicopter was waiting to transport the victim to the hospital, but the victim died before the craft could take off.
No other injuries were reported in the collision.
