Lanes blocked by single-car rollover near San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, CA – A single-vehicle rollover accident on Interstate 8 near San Diego State University was blocking multiple lanes on Thursday afternoon.

According to Caltrans San Diego, a black vehicle overturned in the westbound lanes close to College Avenue at about 2:30 p.m.

Several emergency vehicles, including an ambulance, arrived at the scene and blocked off the two left lanes and shoulder. Traffic slowed down and backed up across all lanes behind the crash scene.

The condition of the involved party is unknown.

Driver crashes antique truck into guardrail in Alpine

SAN DIEGO, CA – A driver escaped injury after crashing their pickup truck into the guardrail on Interstate 8 in Alpine on Wednesday morning.

According to CHP, the driver was headed west on I-8 in a white antique pickup truck when they crashed into the guardrail in the center divide near Peutz Valley Road at about 10:10 a.m.

Thankfully, the driver was not injured. The accident was scene was near a construction zone and all workers escaped injury, as well.

However, the pickup truck was damaged and undrivable. A tow truck removed it from the freeway.

Reckless driver possibly DUI in afternoon I-5 accident

SAN DIEGO, CA – A reckless driver lost control and crashed off the road along Interstate 8 on Tuesday afternoon, according to CHP.

The driver was headed west on I-8 driving recklessly when they lost control and drove off the road near I-5 at about 5:45 p.m.

Several passersby reported a man in a grey sweatsuit, who appeared to be disoriented, to be wandering around in the area after the accident. The man was described as having dark hair and a tattoo and was crossing lanes of traffic.

Authorities ended up investigating the driver for drunk driving. It is unclear whether the man in grey was the driver of the crashed vehicle or another individual.

No one was injured in the accident.

Icy I-8 in Boulevard causes multiple overnight crashes

SAN DIEGO, CA – An icy patch on Interstate 8 in Boulevard was the site of several car accidents through the early morning on Tuesday.

According to CHP, a Dodge Challenger was westbound when it hit the patch of black ice and went off the road near Ribbonwood Road at about 12:30 a.m. A small white Mazda sedan was also headed west at about 4 a.m. when it rolled over on the righthand side of the road after the driver hit an icy patch and was unable to stop.

Several people were inside the red pickup truck that crashed in the eastbound lanes at about 7:15 a.m. At least one of them suffered minor injuries.

More than one of the parties were taken to the nearby Golden Acorn Casino and Travel Center to wait for their vehicles to be recovered after the sun came up on Tuesday.

At least one injured when VW Beetle crashes on I-8

SAN DIEGO, CA – At least one person was injured when a Volkswagen Beetle crashed on Interstate 8 in San Diego on Wednesday morning.

According to CHP, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes near College Avenue at about 6:30 a.m.

The vehicle was left blocking two righthand lanes.

When officials arrived on the scene, they were able to move the vehicle out of the travel lanes where it sat until a tow truck arrived to remove it.

At least one person suffered minor injuries in the crash. It is unclear whether other persons or vehicles were involved.

Sections of I-8 shut down due to winter weather

SAN DIEGO, CA – Sections of Interstate 8 were closed in both directions due to winter weather conditions in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

According to Caltrans San Diego’s Twitter feed, all I-8 eastbound lanes were closed on Willows Road at about 3 a.m. All westbound lanes were closed at Imperial Highway shortly after.

Both areas were closed due to the snow and icy road conditions. After dawn, California Highway Patrol officers began escorting some drivers through the area but it remained largely blocked off.

Other areas in the county were partially closed due to the winter weather on Tuesday.

Ambulance called to crash at I-8E and Mollison Ave

EL CAJON, CA – The California Highway Patrol requested an ambulance tonight following an accident at eastbound I-8, roughly halfway between Mollison Avenue and Highway 67.

Officers arrived at the scene at 6:51 p.m. and found a three-vehicle traffic collision involving a red Ford sedan, a blue Subaru WRX, and a white Toyota Camry. They requested an ambulance and tow trucks, though the extent and nature of any injuries remains unclear at this time.
