Update: Man fatally injured in crash with fire hydrant

SAN DIEGO, CA – A man died from his injuries after crashing with a fire hydrant and overturning in El Cajon on Monday morning, according to the Times of San Diego.

The accident happened on Dehesa Road near Sloane Canyon Road at about 5:30 in the morning on Monday. A Toyota Camry was driving west when it crossed over the center lines and struck the fire hydrant and overturned.

Lanes were closed as the fire hydrant began spurting water, filling the intersection, and partially submerging the vehicle.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released.

Victim of fatal trolley accident identified

SAN DIEGO, CA – The victim of the fatal car versus trolley accident that happened in the Valencia Park-area on Monday night has been identified, according to Patch.com.

21-year-old Alex Garza was killed when he drove past the crossing arms and in front of an oncoming trolley near 60th Street and Imperial Avenue at about 11:45 p.m.

The light-rail tram trolley spun the vehicle around on impact and pushed it about 100 feet down the track before pinning it against a utility pole.

Garza was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe he was likely distracted, perhaps by his cellphone, when the crash occurred.

22-year-old killed after driving in front of trolley

SAN DIEGO, CA – A 22-year-old driver was killed by a trolley car after crossing the gate in the Valencia Park area of the city late on Monday night.

According to Patch.com, the man was driving southbound in a Toyota Prius on 60th Street near Imperial Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. He ignored the crossing arms gate and drove in front of an oncoming trolley. The trolley pushed the vehicle down the tracks about 100 feet.

The 22-year-old was the only occupant of the Prius. He died at the scene. His identity has been withheld until the family can be notified.

Update: Two dead after car drives into Sweetwater River

SAN DIEGO, CA – The driver and passenger of an SUV that drove of State Route 54 into the Sweetwater River both died at the scene of the Friday morning accident.

According to local news, a 69-year-old man was driving the Lexus SUV when he careened across a walking path near the river and overturned in the water at about 5:40 a.m.

Divers pulled the driver and a single passenger from the water after the crash. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have been withheld pending notification of their families.

Man arrested after passenger dies in Paradise Hills

SAN DIEGO, CA – One person has been arrested after an early morning crash took the life of an 18-year-old woman in the Paradise Hills area on Wednesday.

According to Fox News San Diego, a 19-year-old man lost control of a 1992 Mercedes on Paradise Valley Road near Munda Road at about 1:45 a.m. The car left the road and went into the canyon.

The Mercedes was carrying four passengers at the time of the crash. All five occupants were able to exit the vehicle and climb out onto the roadway. One of the passengers, an 18-year-old woman, sustained internal injuries in the crash. She was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead. Her identity has been withheld pending family notification.

The driver of the car fled the crash site but was later apprehended when authorities found him in the bushes nearby. He was arrested under suspicion of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Update: Details emerge about fatal Spring Valley crash

SAN DIEGO, CA – More details have come to light about the fatal car accident that killed one person near a Spring Valley intersection on Wednesday morning.

According to an area news source, the single-vehicle crash occurred when a Chula Vista man careened off the Paradise Valley Road near Worthington Street in a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. After going over the sidewalk, the vehicle crashed through a chain-link fence, down an embankment, and into a tree stump.

The 52-year-old woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was apparently laying in the backseat without a seatbelt at the time of the 6:50 a.m. crash. She was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency crews performed life-saving measures but she was unresponsive and ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Her identity has been withheld pending notification of family.

The 49-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt when he lost control of the car.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident is still underway.

Driver dead after crash with utility pole near airport

SAN DIEGO, CA – Patch.com reported that a driver was killed after colliding with a vehicle then hitting a utility pole near the airport on Wednesday.

The fatal crash occurred in the 2700 block of North Harbor Drive. Both vehicles were traveling westward when the driver of a blue four-door sedan collided with a full-size pickup truck. The impact drove the sedan onto the raised median and into a utility pole.

Authorities on the scene described the damaged utility pole as “shattered.” The driver was trapped in his vehicle. Bystanders attempted to extricate the man until firefighters and paramedics arrived.

The victim, thought to be between 20 and 30 years old, died at the scene.

The other driver was unhurt.

The crash happened at about 10:30 a.m. Both sides of the roadway were closed until after 3.

The crash is still under investigation.

UPDATE: Single vehicle crash kills one and sends two to the hospital

SAN DIEGO, CA – A single-vehicle collision with a tree killed one person and sent two to the hospital, reports NBC 7 San Diego.

This is an update to an earlier story.

A Jeep carrying two passengers slammed into a tree on Pala Temecula Road in north San Diego. Officers were dispatched to the area and found the Jeep had been severely damaged and that multiple people were trapped inside.

Witnesses helped extricate the driver and one passenger. The other passenger was partially ejected from the force of the crash and died at the scene. An ambulance took the driver and passenger to the hospital with major injuries.

Officers believe speed played a factor in the collision. It was also discovered that the driver was under the influence of cannabis which may have impacted his driving. The driver was arrested at the hospital after officers finished processing the scene.
