Motorcyclist injured in Chula Vista crash on I-805

SAN DIEGO, CA – A motorcycle rider was struck and injured by a vehicle on Interstate 805 in Chula Vista early on Friday morning.

According to CHP, the rider had been headed north when they were struck by a sedan at the Bonita Road onramp at about 6 a.m. The rider went down in the roadway and was unable to move until authorities arrived to help.

Authorities ran a traffic break to slow traffic and were able to safely move the victim to an ambulance. Medics transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

It was unclear whether the car’s driver remained on the scene.

Ambulance called to Chula Vista crash scene on I-805

SAN DIEGO, CA – An ambulance was needed at the scene of a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 805 in Chula Vista on Wednesday afternoon.

According to CHP, grey Ford Escape crashed with a grey sedan in the southbound lanes of I-805 near Telegraph Canyon Road at about 3:10 p.m.

The fire department was blocking one freeway lane just north of the exit for Telegraph Canyon Rd.

An ambulance was also called to the scene. One person was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Motorcycle backs up traffic on I-5 in Chula Vista

SAN DIEGO, CA – Traffic was bumper to bumper after an accident involving a motorcycle on Interstate 5 in Chula Vista on Monday afternoon.

According to Caltrans San Diego, the accident was reported near J Street in the southbound lanes shortly before 3 p.m.

The left two lanes were blocked and traffic was backed up as far as East 24th Street. Cars were stacked up bumper to bumper across the lanes.

There is no word on the condition of the motorcyclist or any other involved parties.

Authorities were able to reopen the area before too long.

Early morning I-5 crash in Chula Vista damages light pole

SAN DIEGO, CA – An early morning single-vehicle accident on Interstate 5 in the Chula Vista area damaged a light pole on Wednesday, according to CHP.

A vehicle was southbound on I-5 when it ran into a light pole at the E Street exit ramp just after 4 a.m.

The light post, with two traffic signs attached to it, was still standing after the accident, however, authorities determined it needed to be replaced. The signs also needed to be replaced.

It was unknown whether anyone was injured in the accident.

Elderly woman hospitalized after Chula Vista crash

SAN DIEGO, CA – An elderly woman was transported to the hospital after she drove through a red light and crashed in Chula Vista on Tuesday morning.

According to local news, the woman was headed east on H Street in a black Volkswagen sedan. She drove through a red light and t-boned a dark grey Nissan sedan at about 9:15 a.m. The Nissan was sent spinning and ended up striking a cement barrier.

The Nissan driver, a male,  did not sustain any injuries. The woman was transported to an area hospital.

Driver injured in solo-vehicle crash on I-805 in Chula Vista

SAN DIEGO, CA – A driver was injured after their vehicle hydroplaned into the center divider on Interstate 805 in Chula Vista early in the morning on Thursday.

According to CHP, the driver was northbound in their Nissan 370Z when they hydroplaned into the center divider near Bonita Road at about 4:30 a.m.

The driver reported pain in their head and neck after the accident and they were treated for minor injuries.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Chain-reaction crash reported in I-805 HOV lanes

SAN DIEGO, CA – According to CHP, authorities responded to a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 805 in Chula Vista on Wednesday morning.

The accident happened in the southbound lanes near Bonita Road at about 6:40 a.m. A small black SUV spun out in the left HOV lane and hit the center barrier. The vehicle landed the wrong way. A couple of minutes later a second vehicle hit the first and a few minutes after that a third vehicle became involved.

An ambulance was called to the scene but it is unclear if anyone was injured.

While authorities were clearing the accident traffic began to back up and reached as far as SR-54.

Man in wheelchair killed by car in Chula Vista

SAN DIEGO – A man was riding a motorized wheelchair on a road in the South Bay area of Chula Vista when he was struck and killed by a car on Wednesday morning.

According to NBC San Deigo, the accident happened in the 400 block of Oxford Street just before 10 a.m.

The victim was transported to a hospital in San Diego where he was pronounced dead. His identity is expected to be released after his family is notified.

The driver stopped and cooperated with the authorities.

The area was closed for almost three and a half hours on Wednesday.

Driver taken to jail for DUI after crash in Chula Vista

SAN DIEGO, CA – Alcohol was a factor in a single-vehicle accident reported in Chula Vista on Tuesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle crashed in the 7400 block of Otay Lakes Road at about 4:45 p.m. and was left blocking at least one lane.

When firefighters and police arrived, they discovered that the driver had been drinking. He was transported to the country jail.

Initial reported indicated that no other vehicles were involved in the accident and, thankfully, no one was injured by the drunk driver.

Two dead, two injured in wrong-way crash in Chula Vista

SAN DIEGO, CA – Two people died and two others were seriously injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 in Chula Vista on Saturday morning.

According to local NBC news, a driver entered southbound I-5 near SR-905 at about 5 a.m. Soon after a car accident was reported near L Street that involved at least seven vehicles.

Two people were pronounced dead after the crash and two other victims were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center. They both had suffered serious injuries.

One of the fatal victims was identified by his family as 23-year-old David Ramirez. The other was a woman whose name has not been released.

An investigation is ongoing to determine who the wrong-way driver was.
