A woman was struck and killed in a severe pedestrian wreck that occurred on February 24, 2012, around 12:29p.m. on Arlington Avenue, west of Fairhaven Drive in the far western end of the city. According to Lt. Eric Charrette, a black pickup crossed the double-yellow line, causing the driver of another truck to veer off the road to avoid the collision. Unfortunately, the driver instead ran into a female pedestrian walking east along the south edge of the street.

One person sustained moderate injuries in a serious DUI car crash that occurred on February 23, 2012, around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of East California and North Santa Fe avenues. According to San Diego County sheriff’s Sgt. Glen Twyman, 25-year-old Robert Jarquin rear-ended the vehicle while driving under the influence and continued on his way until he slammed into a light pole.
The motorist in the vehicle that was rear-ended by Jarquin’s vehicle complained of pain and was immediately transported to Tri-City Medical Center for treatment. Jarquin was later booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving under the influence. Read the rest »
19-year-old Ronald Cole died in a serious multiple vehicle wreck that occurred on February 22, 2012, around 9 p.m. on Highway 74 (SR-74) east of Lake Elsinore. According to the authorities, Cole and his passengers were headed west in a 2004 Honda Civic on Highway 74 in the unincorporated Meadowbrook area when Cole, for unknown reasons, crossed into oncoming traffic.
The driver of another 2004 Civic tried to steer out of the way but the two cars collided head on. The other Civic, driven by 23-year-old Cody Testi, of Riverside, spun across the westbound lanes and came to rest on the shoulder. 81-year-old Barbara Fritschel was struck and injured in a serious pedestrian wreck that occurred on February 21, 2012, around 8:30 a.m. on a Thousand Oaks sidewalk. According to the authorities, Fritschel and 79-year-old Martha Bielke were walking on a sidewalk in the 1400 block of Calle de Oro. Both of them stumbled and fell while trying to move out of the path of a motorist backing out of a driveway.
The driver, 63-year-old Marsha Mann, did not see the pair and continued backing up. He drove over Fritschel. Immediately afterward, Mann stopped at the accident to call for help. Fritschel was treated at the scene and was later transported to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center. She is in stable condition but remained in intensive care. A 25-year-old San Diego based woman, Wendy Hamabata, was killed in a tragic car crash that occurred on December 28, 2011, around 4:35 p.m. while she was northbound on Interstate 805 (I-805) in Chula Vista. According to the California Highway Patrol, Hamabata was driving at about 65-70 mph in her recently purchased black 1955 Chevrolet pickup, when she lost control of the truck, just north of East H Street. It swerved to the left and struck a median wall before overturning.
The impact of the collision threw her out of her truck. Hamabata suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the accident scene. The California Highway Police is investigating the cause of the crash. Two adults and two children, a 10-year-old and a 6-year-old, suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash that occurred on December 4, 2011, around 10 a.m. on eastbound side of the freeway near Waring Road on Interstate 8 (I-8). According to the California Highway Patrol, a Land Rover heading eastbound at about 80 to 90mph clipped a red car, then rear-ended a Lexus SUV, causing it to spin out and go over the center divider of the freeway.
The impact of the collision made the SUV fall 120 to 150 feet down an embankment. Both the adults in the car were immediately transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital and the two kids were taken to Rady Children’s Hospital to receive medical treatment. Read the rest »
A 9-year-old boy was injured in a shocking truck accident that occurred on November 17, 2011, around 1:15 p.m. at Kansas Street in North Park. According to San Diego police, a city garbage truck struck boy while he was skating along Meade Avenue. The juvenile fell under the trash truck and was crushed by the undercarriage, according to police.
Medics transported the boy to receive medical treatment for the life-threatening internal injuries and multiple compound fractures. For those of the San Diego Chargers fans that missed it‚ Chargers lineman Kris Dielman suffered a harrowing concussion after colliding with Jets linebacker Calvin Pace in the fourth quarter of SD’s October 23 loss to the Jets. Moments after‚ he was seen struggling to return back to the huddle but still decided to stay in the game until it finished.
According to reports‚ Chargers personnel did not see Dielman staggering to the huddle‚ or else they would have pulled him aside. However‚ an official did. A 50-year-old woman was struck and injured in a San Diego pedestrian accident that occurred on October 31‚ 2011‚ around 7:30 a.m. in Mira Mesa near the corner of Gemini Ave and Pegasus St. According to police‚ the victim was pushing her dog in a stroller when a vehicle hit her.
The car driver stayed at the accident scene to speak with police. From the limited information‚ it is not clear as to what led to this accident. The investigation is in process.
