Valley Center – Guilty Plea In DUI Crash

A woman suspected of killing a motorist in Valley Center pleaded guilty last Wednesday.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on August 3, 2019, 55-year-old Maritza Millan of Indio was driving on Valley Center Road when she attempted to pass a vehicle in front of her. At this point, she crashed head-on into a Toyota Corolla with three occupants. 88-year-old Yasmeen Shaheen of Escondido sustained critical injuries and died en route to the hospital, while two other motorists sustained serious injuries. Millan was also hurt in the collision and needed to be hospitalized. It was eventually revealed that Millan was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Last Wednesday, she pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI and is now waiting for her sentencing.

Oceanside – Multi-Vehicle Crash Update

More details have been released regarding last Saturday’s intersection crash in Oceanside.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., three vehicles collided at the intersection of El Camino Real and Fire Mountain Drive. Initial reports suggested several people were injured in the incident. Authorities have now confirmed that six motorists sustained various injuries in the collision. One victim was transported to Palomar Medical Center, while another had to be airlifted to Scripps La Jolla Hospital due to critical injuries. Other victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. Authorities have yet to identify anyone pending significant progress in their investigation. Escondido – Highway Crash With Entrapment

A highway crash was reported to authorities in Escondido Wednesday morning.

At around 8:30 p.m., a Mercedes sedan and a tanker-truck collided at the junction of Route 78 and I-15 North, resulting in moderate damage and injuries. According to initial reports, firefighters had to extricate at least three motorists before they were treated by medical personnel. The crash resulted in significant delays that have since cleared up. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash and are still collecting evidence. Newport Beach – Fatal Police Chase

A police chase in Newport Beach early Tuesday morning ended in a fatal crash.

Newport Beach Police responded to the Balboa Peninsula to locate and apprehend a speeding 2016 Mercedes-Benz. After a 10-minute chase, the vehicle crashed into a palm tree at the intersection of 23rd Street and West Balboa Boulevard. The driver sustained critical injuries and was killed in the crash, while his female passenger was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. There is no indication that DUI was involved in the collision, and authorities are currently investigating an incident in a nearby establishment that may have led to the car chase and subsequent crash. Escondido – Interstate Crash With Multiple Injuries

Authorities are investigating the involvement of DUI in an interstate crash in Escondido early Tuesday morning.

A few minutes past midnight, a Lexus SUV with two occupants was traveling north on I-15 when it suddenly veered off the highway. The truck then climbed up an embankment before rolling back down the interstate where it was struck by a passing truck. Both occupants were thrown out of the SUV. The first victim, a 20-year-old female from San Diego, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Palomar Medical Center for treatment. The second occupant, a 24-year-old man from Florida, died at the scene after he was struck by a passing Chevrolet Cruze. Authorities are currently investigating the crash and looking at the possibility DUI may have been involved. Updates will be provided as more info is released.

Selma – Police Cruiser Struck At Intersection

A police officer was injured in an intersection collision in Selma midday Sunday.

Shortly before noon, authorities received reports of a crash at the intersection of Floral and South Thompson Avenues. Emergency teams were quickly dispatched to the area to assist a police officer who was injured after his/her cruiser was struck on the side by another vehicle. The collision forced the police vehicle to lunge forward, hitting three other vehicles that were stopped at the busy junction. In total, five vehicles incurred significant damage in the incident. The officer sustained moderate injuries and was quickly taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. The crash is currently under investigation.

Lakeland Village – Multiple Injuries In Vehicle Accident

A single-vehicle crash was reported in Lakeland Village midday Tuesday.

At approximately 1:14 p.m., a vehicle crashed at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Scales Way. According to initial reports, the car veered off its proper path and crashed into a wall. Two motorists sustained injuries in the incident, and one person had to be extricated by firefighters before he/she was sent to the hospital. Valley Center – Fatal Head-On Collision

Three vehicles figured in a crash in Valley Center Tuesday evening.

At around 7:00 p.m., emergency teams were dispatched to Valley Center Road and discovered three vehicles that collided approximately a mile south of Waaash Road. An 85-year-old motorist in a Ford Ranger was traveling north when he veered towards the opposite lane, crashing into two vehicles, a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Ford sustained critical injuries and died at the scene, while several motorists in the Tahoe and Silverado also sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital by EMS teams. Authorities have yet to identify anyone and are actively investigating the cause of the crash.

Pedestrian Killed By Swerving Truck in Riverside

A woman was struck and killed in a severe pedestrian wreck that occurred on February 24, 2012, around 12:29p.m. on Arlington Avenue, west of Fairhaven Drive in the far western end of the city. According to Lt. Eric Charrette, a black pickup crossed the double-yellow line, causing the driver of another truck to veer off the road to avoid the collision. Unfortunately, the driver instead ran into a female pedestrian walking east along the south edge of the street.

Paramedics responding to this serious car wreck treated the victim at the scene and later transported her to Riverside Community Hospital, where she died of her injuries. Read the rest »

Drunk Driver Injures One in San Diego DUI Accident

One person sustained moderate injuries in a serious DUI car crash that occurred on February 23, 2012, around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of East California and North Santa Fe avenues. According to San Diego County sheriff’s Sgt. Glen Twyman, 25-year-old Robert Jarquin rear-ended the vehicle while driving under the influence and continued on his way until he slammed into a light pole.

The motorist in the vehicle that was rear-ended by Jarquin’s vehicle complained of pain and was immediately transported to Tri-City Medical Center for treatment. Jarquin was later booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving under the influence. Read the rest »
