Sutter County- Girl Dead After Texting Caused Multi-Vehicle Crash On Highway 99
A girl died on Sunday, June 30, 2019, after she was ejected from a car she was in in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 99, north of Yuba City, CA. 5 other people were injured in the crash. According to the California Highway Patrol, just a few minutes before 4:30 pm, 24-year old Omer Gorsi was driving south on Highway 99 near Clark Road. At Clark Road, Gorsi crashed into the back of an Acura Integra. At the time, vehicles were slowed to 15 mph as a train passed. Gorsi’s F-250 at about 55 mph at the time of the crash. According to the California Highway Patrol, Gorsi did not notice that traffic had slowed down at the time as he was texting. Because of the crash, the girl occupant in the Acura was ejected from the vehicle and the Acura was pushed into the northbound lane. According to the California Highway Patrol, the girl succumbed to her injuries. The said girl was a resident of Wheatland. According to the investigators, they believed that a Honda CRV was in front of an Acura. At the time, the Honda CRV was then rear ended by the Ford. The Ford, then, flew into the air and rolled over. Gorsi was also ejected from his vehicle. His car stopped on its roof in the northbound lane. According to Caltrans, at one point, the F-250 vehicle burst into flames. Gorsi sustained moderate injuries. According to CHP reports, the driver of the Acura and the other passengers sustained major injuries. 2 other women sustained minor injuries. Investigators did not believe alcohol and drugs were factors that caused the crash.
