Skateboarder critically injured after Point Loma crash

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was hospitalized Tuesday morning after being hit by a car while skateboarding in San Diego’s Point Loma Heights, according to NBC San Diego.

San Diego Police say the crash happened near the intersection of West Point Loma Boulevard and Nimitz Boulevard at approximately 6:00 p.m.

An early investigation shows the skateboarder had not waited for the “Walk” sign and proceeded to cross the street, where he was struck by a Subaru sedan.

The skateboarder fell to the ground and was aided by passersby and the involved driver before authorities arrived.

Police say the man suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to UC San Diego Medical Center. No details have been released on whether or not he had been wearing any protective gear at the time of the crash.

The intersection was shut down during an investigation but was later reopened at 8:30 a.m.
