San Diego- Men Killed And Teen Girls Injured When They Jumped Off A Bridge After A Crash
2 men were killed and 2 teen girls sustained major injuries when they jumped off a freeway overpass after a minor crash in Carmel Valley Tuesday evening, July 9, 2019. These people jumped off the bridge due to the fact that they likely did not realize there was a 50 to 70 foot drop into a canyon, according to officers. 2 other occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured after jumping from the bridge. 2 more other occupants from the said vehicle remained missing as of Wednesday morning, July 10, 2019. According to the California Highway Patrol, all 6 people were heading east on State Route 56 in a Nissan Altima around 11 pm just near Carmel Valley Road. According to witnesses, the vehicle spun out and crashed into a barrier. According to investigators, they believed that 4 of the people were trying to avoid getting struck by another car when they ran across the lanes, hopping off the bridge over a short wall, likely with no idea that such a long drop awaited them. Firefighters found 2 men dead below the bridge. 2 teen girls were rushed to the hospital after sustaining severe injuries. The 2 other occupants of the vehicle who were missing may had ran away after the crash or may had been injured. An open beer was found in the front cupholder of the vehicle. According to officials, though, it was too soon to tell whether or not DUI was suspected of the driver driving the vehicle.
