San Diego Construction Accident Leaves One Dead
The Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating an Oceanside construction site after a structural collapse left one worker dead. As reported by CBS 8, the construction accident happened around 9 a.m. near the halfway complete FedEx warehouse on the 1400 block of Avenida del Oro.
A large retaining wall located in a drainage channel collapsed, trapping a worker underneath. Fellow construction workers who witnessed the accident attempted to help the man by hoisting the 12-foot chunk of concrete off of him with a crane, but it was too late. By the time emergency crews made it to the scene, the man had already died.
The victim was in his 50s and not identified at the time of the report. Construction was halted while OSHA and police authorities investigated the scene. Crisis workers and emergency personnel remained at the accident site to assist anyone who may have known the man or witnessed the accident.
Sadly, accidents such as these are an all too common event in construction. Many hard working individuals and their families are left struggling following a serious on-site accident. Depending on the severity of the accident, some families are left without a husband, wife, or immediate family member.
