Rollover truck accident closes lanes on I-8 in El Cajon
SAN DIEGO, CA – Closures were necessary to clear the scene of a rollover tractor-trailer accident on Interstate 8 in El Cajon on Tuesday afternoon.
According to CHP, the accident was reported on eastbound I-8 near SR-79 at noon. A white tractor-trailer had overturned and was lying on its side in the freeway lanes. Passersby immediately noticed that movement was coming from inside the truck and pulled over to help but were not able to get the driver out until firefighters arrived.
The driver was not injured.
Meanwhile, high winds had made it necessary to close the area to high profile vehicles while also preventing crews from fully removing the truck. It was dragged off the main lanes and left until the winds died down.
Also, during the time crews were working at the scene, which was blocked off by cones, a speeding driver ran through the cones, endangering workers, then drove off.
