A 66-year-old man was bitten by a pit bull on January 4 around 2 p.m. in Mira Mesa. According to the San Diego Police, the dog bite attack occurred when the victim was trying to help a young boy get control of his loose pit bull by providing a rope to round up the dog. The man was attacked by the pit bull and bitten on his thigh and hand.
The victim bled profusely and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention. Medical crews attending to the victim believed that an artery might have been struck and this caused uncontrollable bleeding.
A dog attack is not only a traumatic experience, but also a terrifying one for the injured victim. Our personal injury law office prays for a speedy and safe recovery of the injured victim.
It is not fully clear from the available information what spurred this serious attack, although we can speculate that unfamiliarity and fear played a role in the dog’s aggressive behavior. According to the Animal Control Officers, the pit bull will be quarantined for 10 to 11 days for behavior assessment.
According to a three-year fatality study carried out by Dogsbite.org, from 2006 to 2008, pit bulls killed around 50 people and were involved in 59% of fatal dog bite attacks in America.
It is an unfortunate thing to happen, since the victim was just trying to help the young boy to corral the dog. In this particular case, the pit bull’s owner may be held liable for the victim’s injuries and damages, even if the dog never showed aggressive behavior in the past.
The dog attack victim should file a personal injury claim against the dog owner to get compensatory damages.
