Murder Charged in a Los Angeles Big-Rig Trucking Accident
A grand jury indictment was unsealed on Friday‚ June 19‚ 2009‚ bringing murder charges against the big-rig truck driver who lost his brakes descending a grade in the freeways north of Los Angeles‚ hitting a car and killing a father and his 12-year-old daughter. The truck driver‚ Marcos Barbosa Costa‚ previously faced a vehicular manslaughter charge.
Bail is currently set at $2.09 million.
According to prosecutors‚ Costa drove over the San Gabriel Mountains toward Los Angeles on a road on which big-rig trucks are banned. At La Canada Flintridge‚ he found he had no brakes and his double-decker car-hauler went through an intersection at the bottom of the hill and crashed into a bookstore. The accident killed Angel Posca‚ 58‚ and his daughter‚ both of Palmdale.
