Motorcyclist killed by flying debris on I-15 Monday
SAN DIEGO, CA – A driver left the scene of an accident in Escondido took the life of a motorcyclist on Interstate 15 on Monday afternoon.
According to NBC San Diego, the 3 p.m. accident happened in the southbound lanes of I-15 near Del Lago Boulevard. A 69-year-old man was driving his BMW motorcycle when two other vehicles drove over debris in other lane that struck and killed him. A Chevrolet Cobalt drove over the object first, following by a white sedan as it was changing lanes.
The biker lost control of his motorcycle after the piece of debris flew threw the air and knocked him unconscious. He veered from his lane into the Cobalt and was thrown from his bike.
Bystanders offered first aid until EMS workers were able to arrive. The victim was pronounced dead sometime later after being transported to Palomar Medical Center. His name is being withheld until the family can be notified.
The white sedan left the scene after a brief stop, exited the freeway, and police are currently searching for the driver.
The Cobalt’s driver was injured in the crash.
