Man rescued after car goes off cliff at Carlsbad Beach
SAN DIEGO, CA – A man was rescued from the edge of the ocean after apparently driving his car off of a cliff at Carlsbad Beach on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Fox News San Diego, the accident happened off Carlsbad Avenue near Palomar Airport Road at about 5:10 p.m. For unknown reasons, the white SUV went through the guardrail and another fence before crashing down the side of a cliff face. The vehicle landed on its side on the edge of the water.
Rescuers pulled one person from the vehicle. They strapped him in a stretcher and, with the help of lifeguards and firefighters, were able to hoist the victim back to the top of the cliff.
The extent of the victim’s injuries is unclear.
The road was closed in both directions while crews worked at the scene.
