Man pinned in rollover wreck on SR-56 near Carmel Valley

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was hospitalized early Monday morning after a crash pinned him under a car on California Highway 56 in the Carmel Valley area, according to ABC 10 News.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said the collision occurred on the westbound lanes of the highway at approximately 3:30 a.m.

According to authorities, the events unfolded when deputies attempted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle in the San Marcos area. The driver failed to stop for the deputies and sped away, prompting a police chase that spanned SR-78 to Interstate 15, and then ended up on SR-56.

Deputies said the driver reached speeds of 100-110 miles per hour at various points in the pursuit.

As the chase approached Carmel Valley Road, the driver lost control of their car and flipped over, causing the victim to be ejected and become trapped underneath.

Fire crews and deputies were able to life the car and free the victim, who was rushed to a nearby hospital. The severity of his condition remains undisclosed.

Two other occupants in the car were treated for minor injuries.

No further information has been released on any arrests or pending charges.
