La Jolla Man Suffers Paralyzing Attack in New Orleans
One La Jolla resident discovered recently that you don’t have to be in a car to be a victim of road rage. The 64-year old man, known for his love of music, dancing, and spending time in the Big Easy, was recently attacked in a New Orleans road rage incident.
As reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the victim was crossing a French Quarter street around midnight when a black sedan cut him off. The man hurled a beer can at the car, skipping it off the roof. The driver stopped, got out of his vehicle, and assaulted the victim, punching him and knocking the man to the ground. The driver sped away following the attack. The victim was taken to the hospital, unable to feel his arms or legs.
Witnesses were able to provide the New Orleans police with an account of the encounter, as well as the driver’s license plate. The attacker was later caught and charged with second-degree battery. The victim remains in critical condition at a New Orleans hospital. He is able to speak, but is effectively paralyzed from the shoulders down.
