A female pedestrian in her 40s suffered serious injuries in a pedestrian accident that occurred on January 17 around 6 p.m. in the 5000 block of El Cajon Boulevard. San Diego Police Officer David Stafford said that the woman was hit by a 1999 Mercedes driven by a 42-year-old female motorist as she walked into the street.
The injured pedestrian sustained head injuries and a broken leg from the accident. The injured victim was taken to a nearby trauma center for immediate medical attention. Our prayers are with the injured woman and we sincerely wish her a speedy recovery.
The female motorist escaped unhurt in this crash and waited at the accident site for the police officials to arrive.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), more than 50 people died and around 800 suffered injuries in pedestrian accidents in the year 2010.
Getting hit by a car as a pedestrian is very frightening and can have major physical consequences. Injuries sustained in pedestrian accidents are more likely to be fatal than other auto accidents since pedestrians are hit directly and not protected within a car. Speed, failure to yield right-of-way, and negligence from either party is amongst the major contributing factors in pedestrian accidents.
To determine the at-fault party, a complete investigation is required. Regardless of how and why this serious pedestrian accident occurred, the injured victim has legal rights to look into. The injured female victim is advised to seek counsel from an experienced pedestrian accident attorney who has enough expertise to understand the challenges faced by the victims in this type of situation.
Motorists travelling on the road have the responsibility to drive cautiously and obey traffic laws. All motorists need to be more aware of pedestrians in close proximity and all pedestrians cannot assume that all vehicles can see them. In order to make our roads safer, let’s all slow down and pay more attention.
