Elderly Man Killed in Carlsbad Single-Vehicle Accident
According to a report by NBC San Diego, on November 9, a 91-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Carlsbad. The driver, a 79-year-old woman, survived but was left with severe injuries, stated officials with the Carlsbad Police Department.
The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of Monroe Street. The car allegedly veered into the opposite lane and proceeded to ram into trees on the side of the road. Investigators have not released the identities of the victims or the cause of the accident. They have ruled out alcohol as a factor.
Monroe Street between Marron Road and Hospital Way was shut down for several hours after the fatal crash.
Single-vehicle accidents are not necessarily always the product of driver error. There are various outside factors which can cause a driver to lose control of their vehicle, such as:
- Dangerous road conditions, such as inadequate or improper signage, potholes and bad road design;
- Defective auto parts due to flaws in design or mistakes made in the manufacturing process; and
- Negligent and/or reckless actions committed by another driver that does not result in a collision but causes an accident nonetheless.
