Drunk Driver Runs over Woman Who Fell Off Bicycle in North Park
A female bicyclist suffered injuries when she was run over by a vehicle after she fell from her bicycle on August 29 in North Park. According to an eyewitness, a Ford Focus driven by a white male ran over the woman. He then parked at a nearby 7-11 store and wandered off.
Police officers and responding paramedics found out that the motorist was driving under the influence (DUI) and later arrested him on DUI charges when the male reappeared at the scene.
The injured victim was transported to UCSD medical center to receive immediate medical attention. Our law office hopes and prays that the injuries suffered by the female bicyclist do not prove fatal and heal soon.
Drinking and driving often turns out to be a deadly combination for the drunken motorist and/or for innocent victims nearby. San Diego DUI accidents contributed to 364 injuries and 39 deaths in 2009.
A complete investigation in this North Park bicycle accident is needed to determine the at-fault party. Since the drunk driver was arrested on DUI charges and hit someone while intoxicated, he will likely be held liable for the damages done. To prove fault, the injured victim needs to consult with an experienced lawyer who will help to file a personal injury lawsuit.
The at-fault driver, in addition to facing criminal charges, can also be held civilly liable for the injuries suffered by the victim. In this case, the injured bicyclist can seek compensation from the drunk driver for damages including medical expenses, lost wages, and other accident-related damages.
