A 63-year-old drunk driver and his 41-year-old female companion were hospitalized in a DUI truck accident that took place on June 29 around 5 a.m. in the 3300 block of Ingraham Street in Pacific Beach. According to San Diego police, the man’s Ford F-150 veered off a Pacific Beach thoroughfare and smashed into a wall.
The front end of the truck was smashed, trapping the male driver and female passenger inside. The suspected drunken driver suffered injuries to his arm and pelvis. The female passenger sustained serious head and leg trauma.
Responding medics immediately transported both the injured victims to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 27 fatalities and 748 injuries involving alcohol-related crashes in San Diego. Drunk driving has serious consequences, especially when it results in injury or death.
The truck driver may be found to have violated California Vehicle Code Section 23152(a), which states that “it is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.”
If the man is found to have been driving under the influence, then the injured passenger can file a personal injury claim for damages. The female passenger may be able to find compensation to cover her medical expenses, lost wages, hospital care, and rehabilitation from injuries.
