Driver flees fatal car accident on I-8 in El Cajon
SAN DIEGO, CA – According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal car accident was reported on Interstate 8 in El Cajon on Tuesday morning.
A black Honda Civic and another sedan crashed in the dark on Interstate 5 near North Second Street a few minutes before 3 a.m. Both of the vehicles stopped in the center median but within a couple of minutes, and before authorities could arrive, one of the drivers fled.
The 911 caller reported that one of the parties needed medics. Authorities later confirmed that at least one person was pronounced dead after the accident. Their identity has not been released.
Police in the area were also told to be on the lookout for the fleeing vehicle. It is unclear whether they were able to apprehend it.
The roadway was closed for about two hours on Tuesday morning.
