Driver dead after hitting metal sign on SR-78 in San Marcos
SAN DIEGO, CA – A driver lost his life when his vehicle struck a metal signpost then caught fire along State Route 78 in San Marcos on Sunday night.
According to Fox News San Diego, the victim was headed west on SR-78 in his 2017 Dodge Challenger when he swerved from the road near Twin Oaks Valley Road at about 8:30 p.m. The vehicle struck a signpost, overturned, then went up in flames.
The driver was trapped inside his burning vehicle. Authorities pronounced his death at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved.
A closure in the area of the scene continued for about two hours following the crash.
