Carjacking and car crash leads to arrest
VISTA, CA – A car was stolen Wednesday around 3:00 p.m. when two men threatened the driver with bodily harm. The carjackers proceeded to lead police officers on a chase, reports Fox 5 San Diego.
The car was taken forcibly around 900 Postal Way. The suspects were Joseph Laxton, 26, and Ricardo Hernandez, 30, who police say are part of a local gang. Officers received a report of the carjacking and began searching for the vehicle.
An officer spotted it and relayed the location to a helicopter above. Laxton and Hernandez led police on what was described as a “brief chase,” before crashing into a curb.
Both men ran away from the crash on foot and were later arrested. Laxton and Hernandez are expected to be arraigned in numerous felony counts including carjacking, hit-and-run, the threat of death or great bodily injury, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of illegal drugs, as well as being in a gang.
Officers are continuing their investigations.
