Bicyclist hit, critically hurt by driver in Redwood Village

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 51-year-old man was hospitalized Tuesday morning after being hit by a car while riding a bicycle in San Diego’s Redwood Village neighborhood, according to Times of San Diego.

The incident occurred in the 5900 block of University Avenue at approximately 5:00 p.m.

According to the San Diego Police Department, a 21-year-old male driver was in the left lane when he tried to pass another car in the right lane and struck the cyclist. For reasons still being investigated, the cyclist had veered out of the bike lane and into the right westbound lane.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

No further information has been disclosed at this time, but an investigation by the SDPD Traffic Division was in progress.
