At least one person dead after El Cajon car fire
SAN DIEGO, CA – Local authorities were investigating the crash site of a fatal car fire on Interstate 8 in El Cajon on Monday morning.
According to CHP, 911 calls about the single-vehicle incident began to come in just after 6 a.m. A car was on fire off of I-8 west near Carrizo Gorge Road. The fire quickly began to spread from the vehicle to the vegetation around the car. Firefighters were able to put the fire out in about half an hour.
At least one person died as a result of the car fire. Their identity has not been released at this time.
Authorities began investigating the area in an attempt to figure out the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. Lanes were closed until about 11 a.m. while investigators tried to determine where the vehicle left the road.
