51-year-old man dead after crashing his vehicle into a tree
SAN DIEGO, CA – A 51-year-old man was declared dead yesterday morning after a fiery crash in Rancho Bernado. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the man was traveling at high speed going northbound on West Rancho Bernardo Drive when he lost control of the vehicle. The car jumped the west curb, hit a water main, smashed into a tree, and caught fire. The final collision occurred near Via Del Campo.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said that the fire spread to the surrounding foliage and burned about half an acre. The water main damage also sent a deluge down the roadway.
Emergency responders arrived at around 11:50 a.m. and declared the driver dead at the scene of the accident.
