2 motorcyclists involved in crash on I-5 near MX-US border

SAN DIEGO, CA — A collision involving two motorcycles was reported late Thursday afternoon on Interstate 5 in south San Diego’s San Ysidro neighborhood, reports the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred on the southbound lanes under the Camino De La Plaza overpass, near the Mexico-United States border. It was first reported by the CHP shortly before 4:30 p.m.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the wreck, but two motorcycles came to rest on the right shoulder of the southbound interstate.

One rider was also said to be down on the right shoulder, but the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.

Both an ambulance and at least one tow truck were en route to the scene.

By 4:43 p.m., southbound traffic had become backed up to Via De San Ysidro.
