J. Daniel Holsenback
Senior Trial Lawyer
Jurewitz Law Group
600 B Street, Suite 1550
San Diego, CA 92101
J. Daniel Holsenback didn’t start out in personal injury litigation. Over a wide-ranging legal career that started in 1989, Dan has handled commercial breach of contract cases, construction defect litigation, employment law and wrongful termination (he even argued the first "suitable seat" case in California), insurance disputes, legal malpractice and anti-SLAPP motions, real estate, and intellectual property - copyrights, trademarks, and patent litigation. Oh yes, and personal injury litigation. (With representation equally split between plaintiff and defense.)
Out of law school, Dan cut his teeth at Gray Cary Ames & Frye, the largest law firm in San Diego with numerous clients in high-tech industries, as a member of the civil litigation and intellectual property departments. After more than three years with the firm, Dan left to start his own firm as a Gray Cary-trained attorney. In 2000, he served as general counsel for software manufacturer bleem! and as co-counsel in precedent-setting copyright, trade secret, trademark, and patent litigation against media giant Sony.
In 2015, Dan started a new career - as a mediator. What prompted this established trial attorney, who was considered for federal and state judgeships, to focus on conflict resolution instead? Having been embroiled in high-conflict stakes for years, he wanted to help people find common ground. His experience in the courtroom translated well for his mediation clients, from powerful businesses to individuals.
Now, at Jurewitz Law Group, J. Daniel Holsenback provides more than 25 years of trial experience and mediation for client cases that end up in front of a jury. Before joining the firm, Dan tried more than thirty lawsuits to settlement or verdict before juries, judges, and arbitrators.
People who work with Dan say he’s calm, cool, and collected - but at the same time, "his ability to absorb, process, and then act upon information brand new to him is quite impressive." "Great intelligence and a keen sense of humor." "Experienced and tenacious…. His results are far better than anyone else we have seen and his integrity is impeccable." "Dan is an excellent problem-solver and a quick-thinking litigator with good people skills."
Dan currently lives in San Diego with his son and their dog, and spends his free time volunteering for Solana Beach Little League and weightlifting. Dan is also an actor who has appeared in plays, movies, and television shows.
