Deer
When riding, look out for deer that run by or freeze in front of you, especially during dusk. If possible, slow down. Resist looking directly back at them and instead, focus on steering your way past them.
Grass Clippings Blown onto the Road in a Curve
Slippery mown grass onto the road is especially dangerous around curves. With green grass trimmings on the pavement, don't lean the bike over and race through them. Take your time getting past this obstacle.
Potholes and Unmarked Excavations
Winter takes its toll on roads. Right after the season passes, you may not have a chance to check out the main back roads and locate the new obstacles in your path. Keep your eyes on the road ahead and look out for small potholes and broken pavement. If you see something and you're not sure what it is, slow down and look for a way around it.

A right hand curves close to a steep slope and roads, intersections with gravel roads, or driveways that slop down to paved road are usually places where sand, grit, and gravel can pile up on the road.
