We Gave You 9 Ways to Protect Your Unborn Baby from Being Injured in an Auto Accident. Now, Here are 3 More Ways...
The importance of keeping an unborn child safe while in a car cannot be understated. An unborn child is very fragile, so the utmost care needs to be taken that in the event of an accident the safety mechanism of the vehicle as well as the natural safety provided by the amniotic fluid provide adequate protection.
Previously, we wrote about the top 9 ways to protect your unborn baby from the dangers of a car accident. This topic was so important, we decided to add 3 more ways to our list:
Try to Drive Your Car as Little as Possible
I know this is easier said than done, but it is possible to cut back on your driving time. Instead of driving to work 5 days a week, start a carpool with your neighbors or coworkers. Also, you could try to plan out all of your errands several days in advance so you can take care of multiple errands in one trip. Instead of driving to stores or malls, you could do your shopping online (many products are cheaper online anyway). You should also ask your family and friends to come and visit you. Being pregnant is a great excuse to have visitors. Finally, you should fly to your destinations instead of taking long road trips.
Continue to Practice Safe Driving
When you have to drive, make sure you are in the best possible condition to drive. Don’t ever drive if you’re too tired or feeling sick. Also, try not to drive at night or in inclement weather. This is especially important when the rainy season hits San Diego. Also, never use a cell phone while driving your car. Use a Bluetooth headset instead. Finally, never allow yourself to be a passenger with someone who is unfit to drive.
Make Sure Your Car is Safe
Make sure the car that you are driving is in good condition. Be sure to check the tires, brakes, and lights, engine, and fluid levels. Take it to a shop and give it a tune up and to make sure everything is functioning properly. If you are buying a car at this time, make sure that the car has high safety ratings (go to www.iihs.org for more information, and they also provide baby seat ratings as well).
