Having A Pool in San Diego Can Be A Great Enjoyment For Your Family, But Make Sure Your Children Are Kept Safe Around It.
Having your own personal pool in San Diego can be a luxury. It means that you can take a nice swim or cool off any time you like. However, it also means that you have to take some extra safety precautions, especially if you have kids around.
If you have a pool, make sure you have a protected entry so that your kids can't get in unless you are around. You can do this by installing a fence that is at lest four feet high around all four sides of the pool. This will keep a young child from going over, under, or through it. Also, have pool gates open out from the pool, and self-closing or self-latching locking mechanisms installed and out of the reach of children.
Children may not be developmentally ready for swim lessons until after the age of four. When infants and toddlers are in or around the water, make sure an adult is an arm's length away.
The Most Important Rule
Never leave a child alone in or near a pool, not even for a moment. Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye, and you always need to keep your guard up. In cases like this, it is good to keep rescue equipment nearby. This can be a shepherd's hook, long pole with a hook on the end, or a life preserver. Also, have a portable telephone close. "Floaties" are NOT substitutes for life vests and they have the disadvantage of giving children a false sense of security, so avoid them.
During the summer, both the pool and the waterways tend to get congested. Keep yourself and your family are safe this summer by following these simple tips.
