73-year-old Celia Torres and her 16-year-old grandson David Gonzalez were killed in a tragic DUI car accident that occurred on December 9, 2011, around 5:45 p.m. on state Route 125 (SR-125) in La Mesa just south of Interstate 8 (I-8). According to California Highway Patrol, a suspected drunken driver struck the Nissan Pathfinder, causing it to burst into flames and leave both the victims trapped inside. According to a passerby Jeff Lieres, a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 39-year-old Justin Foulds swiped a car and then struck the Pathfinder, causing a four-car crash. Both Torres and Gonzalez were pronounced dead at the accident scene.
Foulds, who was coming from a holiday work party, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. From the present information, it is quite clear that the reckless driving and irresponsible actions of the motorist led to this chain-reaction accident that claimed two lives.
